S630. A Constitutional Amendment to Provide for Citizens Non-Voting will appear on the ballot in November once the Senate and House pass it. Because it is an amendment to our NC Constitution, it does not need Cooper's signature. This will surely drive many conservatives to the polls. You need to spread the word. We will be having a Legislative Action Day in the near future. In the meantime, you can call the Senators below who are sponsors and supporters of the amendment.
Referred To Committee on Rules and Operations of the Senate on 4/6/2023
Sponsors:
Alexander; Galey; Hanig; Johnson; Krawiec; McInnis; Moffitt; P. Newton; Sanderson; Sawrey; Sawyer; Settle
NC General Assembly: S630 NC
The bill is in Senate Rules Committee - please CALL & EMAIL the Chair/Vice Chair. Here is their contact info: https://www.ncleg.gov/Committees/CommitteeInfo/SenateStanding/148
It's good to see this! Thanks for pushing to make it happen!
I assume this must be voted on in both houses still? Any idea when that is expected to occur? It will be important to see who votes how.
Regarding non-citizens: Shouldn't the language be be more precise? The federal databases that the lists should be run against should at least specify the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) database. The Border Patrol information that has been gathered when migrants are admitted via a claim of asylum is extensive.
Should SB630 also mention any requirements about being an NC resident in order to vote in the state?
Re SB630: The one change that needs to be made to be consistent with a US Passport (the "gold standard" for who can vote) is that it should say "citizen/national" as it does on page 2 of your passport. Being consistent with the US Passport will prevent any potential lawsuits.
